Memorial Service for Ray Walker

In Memory of Ray Walker

The family of Ray Walker, who passed away Friday October 20, is sponsoring a Celebration of Life service for Ray, to be held Saturday October 28th at Tiara Towers, North Club room, at 11:30 am.     This will be an opportunity for friends to gather, pay their respects, share memories of Ray, and show the family that Ray was indeed a dear friend to many at Tiara.

Ray has many friends in Fort Pierce who are saddened by his passing and they are also welcome to join in this memorial service.

Ray called Tiara Towers home for over a decade, first residing in the North tower, and for the past 7 years in the South tower (901 S).   He walked the beach nearly every day, pausing to greet and chat with everyone up and down the beach.   He is well known at many of the local Ft. Pierce dining places.  Ray was 75 years young.

Please dress casually, as Ray would remember us.

The family shared this obituary with us.

Raymond L. Walker

Raymond Lloyd Walker, 75, of Hutchinson Island, Fla. (formerly of Blackshear), died Friday morning (Oct. 20, 2017) at the Lawnwood Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

Born Aug. 7, 1942, in Waycross, he was a son of the late Fleming Lloyd and Hazel Thomas Walker. He grew up in Blackshear where graduated from Blackshear High School with the class of 1960. After high school, he joined the military and served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard.

He was retired as the agency manager of the Pierce County Office of Farm Bureau Insurance. He was a former member and past president of the Blackshear Rotary Club and was a member of Blackshear First Baptist Church. After retirement, he moved to Hutchinson Island, Fla., to live the “beach life” where he enjoyed walking on the beach, laying around reading and loved the fresh “salty air.”

He loved spending time with his family and friends and always looked forward to his children and grandchildren visiting him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. His outgoing personality helped him to never meet a stranger, and over the years he proudly helped countless people who found themselves in hard times.

Survivors include his two children, Raymond L. Walker Jr. (Dana Theriault), of Richmond Hill, and Stacie Walker Jorishie (husband, Chris), of Mooresville, N.C.; his grandchildren, Caleb Walker, of Jacksonville, Fla., Chase Jorishie, of Greenville, N.C., Payton Walker, of Blackshear, and Emma Grace Theriault, of Richmond Hill; his brothers and sisters, Carol Strickland (husband, Jimmy), of Lake Blackshear, Mike Walker, of Blackshear, Victoria Anderson (husband, Carroll), of Claxton, and Debbie Walker-Bonati (husband, Frank), of St. Simons Island; his former wife and mother of his children, Feldeen Walker, of Blackshear; two special aunts, Mildred Dowling and Irene Dixon, both of Blackshear; nieces and nephews, Jeannie Morris (husband, Calvin), of Baxley, Ettoria Walker, of Florence, Ala., Tom Walker, of Florence, Ala., Eric Strickland (wife, Lisa), of Richmond Hill, Dr. Brent Anderson (wife, Dr. Julia), of Nashville, Tenn., Dustin Brown (wife, Coleen), of Brunswick, Brooke Walker (husband, Jim) and Angela Smith (husband, Trek), both of St. Simons Island, and Chelsea Anderson, of Atlanta; and several great-nieces, nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorialization will be by cremation.

A private memorial service for family and friends will take place at Hutchinson Island in a few weeks [Sat. Oct 28th, 11:30 am]  followed by a memorial service in Blackshear in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.  Time and date will be announced later.

The family wishes to thank David and Sue Jenkins and the Tiara Tower’s family for their friendships and helping take care of Ray over the years. “Your kindness will always be remembered.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church Blackshear, 670 Main St., Blackshear, Ga. 31516 or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio St., Suite 500, Chicago, Ill. 60611 or at http://www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org/ways-to-give/

New Internet/Phone Service Available

Until now Tiara Towers unit owners had the choice of getting their Internet and Phone service from only Comcast or AT&T.     Last year Tiara Towers' Board of Directors approved the installation of cabling to offer unit owners another option when choosing Internet and Phone providers.    That new service, offered by Level 4 Telcom, is now available.

Level 4 is a Florida-based communications provider and has provided services to businesses on the Treasure Coast for many years.   They offer several options for Internet service, from Basic with 25 mb download ($39.95 monthly) to Pro with 100 mb download ($74.95 monthly).   Phone service is offered for $25.86 monthly.   Bundled offerings are also available.  Level 4 requires no long-term contract; services can be cancelled with 30 days notice.

Full details and pricing can be found on the Service Order Form.

There are Service Order Forms in the mailrooms to sign up for either Internet service or phone service or both.  The Form can also be downloaded from the Tiara website.    View/print the available options using the Options form Internet & Voice Options (Tiara) 17.10.11   and print the Order form  Internet & Voice Order Form (Tiara) 17.10.11 side 2 to sign up for the service.

Pick up the Form, or download/print the Form, fill it out and Fax or scan and Email the completed Form as directed on the Service Order Form.   Alternatively, you can contact Level 4 at 772-448-7700 to order your service.

Sad News

Our friend and long-time renter Ray Walker (901 S) passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 20th.   Ray, a Georgia native, lived at Tiara for many years.     He could be seen almost daily walking the beach, chatting with friends and other beachgoers as he walked to the Inlet and back.   Ray joined in many of the get-togethers at Tiara and is well known at local Fort Pierce dining establishments.    He will be missed.

We expect that a memorial service will be held in Florida, possibly at Tiara Towers South, in the next week or so.   Full funeral services will be with his family in Georgia.   As soon as more information is available we will post it.

Storage Locker Review

Once upon a time ----- there was an accurate list of which storage cage belonged to which unit.     Sadly over time, and with changes in unit ownership, that list has deteriorated.    Each unit is entitled to one (1) storage cage.    Over the years some owners have abandoned their cage when they moved out and new owners have selected any unused/unlocked cage as their own.    Right now it is difficult, almost impossible, to know which units are using which cages.    The Board is trying to update that list.  Please help us.

In each mailroom you'll find a clipboard with spaces for you to identify your unit and the storage cage that you are using.    There are 2 storage rooms in each building, and the storage cages are numbered sequentially across them.    While there were once locker/cage numbers on every cage, several have gone missing.     You can figure out the number of the cage you are using either by noting the number on your cage or counting from the closest cage that still has a cage number.

If you are not in residence at Tiara but have a renter, please ask your renter to figure out the cage they are using and update the list in the mailroom.

If you are not in residence at Tiara you may know your storage cage number from your ownership papers.    If you will not be at Tiara within the next few weeks you can send the cage number that you think belongs to your unit to Jeri Bullock or give her a call.

The goal is to update the Storage Locker list and ensure that every unit has an available storage cage.

Thank you for your cooperation.

After Hurricane Irma

Irma passed and left us with a number of follow-up items.

Landscaping - The landscaping is undergoing a hard cutback during these weeks, to encourage more growth to replace the damages left by Hurricane Irma.   It may look a bit sparse for a while but should help the trees and bushes recover faster.   A more complete landscaping plan will be available later this month.

The annual trimming of the sea grapes has been completed (except for a few missed locations) and those on the 2nd and 3rd floors should enjoy a view of the ocean again.

Unit damages - Please let Steve Donnelly (EM Maintenance) know if your unit sustained any damage due to the hurricanes this year:   water leaks, water intrusion, cracks, broken windows, etc.   The Board needs to evaluate the level of damages to the buildings.    You can fill out a Maintenance request or send an email to the Tiara Newsletter or to any member of the Board with the information about your unit.   Please be sure to include your unit number and owner name along with a description of the damage.    If you took pictures, please indicate that you have pictures and the Board will contact you for a copy of your pictures.
