We Remember Christos

Christos Tzanetakos

1938-2019

Christos Tzanetakos was born on December 23, 1938 in a small town named Stavroupolis, Greece.

He was one of five children born to his parents, Dimitrios and Georgia (Koutros) Tzanetakos.   He spent his youth and teen years in various parts of Greece moving often due to the civil war taking place there in the 1940s.   An avid reader with a curious mind, he entered the engineering academy, graduated at the top of his class, and began work as a marine engineer.

Between 1959 and 1969 he traveled the world on ships until a chance encounter in Miami, changed the course of his traveling life. He met  Alice Stambolis at a local greek dance and together they shared forty four years of marriage.  Christos and Alice raised Christopher and Paul, Alice’s sons from her first marriage, and in 1972 had their daughter Georgia.   Christos is survived by his children Christoper (Janelle), Paul, Georgia (Derek) and two sisters, Anna Sharkey and Voula Barkclay and numerous nieces and nephews.  His grandchildren include Cameron Alvarez, Ella Alvarez, Lana Tzanetakos and Poppy Tzanetakos.

Christos led an adventurous life and lived every day to the fullest. He saw many parts of the world in his 80 years and expressed gratitude for so many friends and family who added to his life.  He was outspoken, unconventional and bold yet kind, compassionate and caring. He loved spending time reading, fishing, playing poker and visiting with friends.

When diagnosed with a life changing illness just after turning 80, he approached tragedy with calm, courage and purpose. His attempt at chemotherapy was not successful but he left this world peacefully knowing he lived his life fully and with no regrets.  He will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Five years ago, Christos wrote  about the death of his beloved, Alice.  After several years of unwavering love and kindness as her sole caregiver, he chose the following poems for her Memoriam and so it seems fitting to also include them here…

An individual human existence should be like a river…

Small at first, narrowly contained within its banks,

And rushing passionately past boulders and over waterfalls,

Gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede,

The water flows more quietly, and – in the end-

Without any visible break,

They become merged in the sea,

And painlessly lose their individual being.

The man or woman who, in old age,

Can see his or her life in this way,

Will not suffer the fear of death,

Since the things they care for will continue.

-- Bertrand Russell

And another.....

I fall asleep in the full and certain hope

That my slumber shall not be broken;

And that though I be all-forgetting,

Yet I not be all-forgotten,

But continue that life in the thoughts

And deeds of those I loved…..

-- Samuel Batler

Shutter Lubrication 2019

From Board President Bill Dicker:

                      Tiara Towers News – March 19, 2019

The Board has negotiated a special shutter lubrication price with Shuttertek  (the company that is doing the shutter inspection).

The price for end units is $45.00 and $35.00 for interior units. The process includes lubrication of the upper track (the ceiling track) and lubrication of the vertical joints connecting each vertical shutter slat.  This is a “lubrication only” process – there is no cleaning involved.

If you are interested, contact Shuttertek directly (772-828-6149 or 772-828-8018) in order to schedule your lubrication.  The lubrications will start after both buildings have been through the shutter inspection.

Shuttertek will prepare an inspection report that will list each unit and any problems that may render your unit “not storm ready”.  You will have 60 days to repair, or be under contract for repair, any problem shutters or parts of shutters (once you have been notified of your shutter status.)  You may contract for repairs with Shuttertek, Expert, Coastal Shutters or any other licensed shutter company you might select.

Hopefully every unit will be storm ready for this year’s hurricane season.

Rest in Peace Pedro

Update on Screens

HOA Board President Bill Dicker published an update on handling screens.

Tiara Towers Condominium Association

Saturday – March 16,2019

As you know the painting project requires owners to remove their screens from sliders and windows.  David and several volunteers have been available to help owners in this process( if requested) OR if the owners are not here and have not complied.

Many slider screens and window screens have not been used or maintained and many are very old.  At best most screens will not last more than five years in a marine environment with or without appropriate maintenance (washing screens and frames, replacing wheels, replacing adjustment screws)

In the process of helping “in-residence” or “absent” owners remove and return their screens, some screens have lost wheels or broken.  David and the volunteers are not responsible for any damage and should not be asked to repair or replace their screens. They did their best with what was there.

Most of the owners who have experienced this problem have been understand- ing - especially when they saw the actual condition of their screens.  However, a few owners have not - demanding that the Association pay for the repair or replacement of their screens. (So much for deliberate acts of kindness). This is not going to happen unless the owner can prove negligence.

If you do not want assistance under these circumstances you must still remove your screens to prevent a delay in the painting of the buildings.  If they are not removed we will reluctantly remove them regardless of the consequences.

Thank you for your assistance, understanding, and patience. We don’t do this again until 2027.
