Tiara Board Meeting – January 14th

The first Board meeting of 2022 will be held Friday, January 14th, at 10 a.m. in the North building.     One of the key topics will be our property insurance that has increased approximately 40% ,over the prior year. It looks like  we will  need to  amend our 2022 operating  budget.

Other items might include the new Telecom service, and an updated Rules book.

New Elevators in Service

All four (4) new Elevators have been in service for a few weeks now, and running smoothly.   It's a great relief to have all the elevators operation, especially with owners and residents returning to Tiara for the winter season.       The elevators are quiet and fast.    Many, many thanks to Alan Winslow (N 1302), Chairman of the Elevator Committee.  He has gone above and beyond to quarterback the  new elevators.   They definitely improve the  Tiara! .   It wasn't always easy but Alan did a great job working with Schindler and their sub-contractors to complete the installation before the holidays.

Watch for ongoing changes to the digital displays over the next few weeks as the Communications Committee, chaired by Karen Murphy (S 102), learns to update the displays with new pictures, messages, and announcements.    If you have great pictures of Tiara or its surroundings and think they'd be interesting to see in the elevator please contact Karen.      Announcements of events and parties can also be added to the display if you'll share that info with Karen.

It's up to all of us to keep the elevator interiors in great condition.   Maintenance Supervisor David Pugh will install pads on the walls whenever you expect a furniture delivery or building supplies, or even move-in belongings.   Just contact David 48 hours before the expected delivery date and the pads will go up.

Tiara Directories to be Delivered

TIARA HOMEOWNER’S DIRECTORY FOR 2022 WILL BE READY SOON!

Beginning Tuesday January 11th you will be able to sign up in the Mailroom to have your directory delivered to your unit.    It will be left at your door and you do not have to be home or open the door to anyone.

If you will not be here the directory can be mailed to your address of record with Elliott Merrill, as long as that address is NOT a Tiara unit.  Directories mailed by EM will probably go out sometime during the week of January 25th.

We deliver them to your unit to reduce postage costs.

Farmers Market at Fort Pierce

Wondering where to take visiting friends and family?  Want to do something fun and different on Saturday morning?  Look no further than the Ft. Pierce Farmers’ Market which takes place every Saturday from 8:00 am to noon.  Located at 101 Melody Lane, near the downtown library, the Farmers’ Market has so much to offer.  Whether you prefer coffee, tea, or a juice smoothy, you’ll find something you like.  To go with it, you can add rolls, muffins, or even cider donuts, and other delightful offerings from the many vendors.

Even if you don’t want anything to eat, you’ll enjoy the free live music and the gorgeous views of the Indian River.   Sit on a bench or the Marina wall and take in the views and the activity as people wander and mingle.  Supplementing the food offerings is a broad array of arts and crafts vendors just across the street.  Clothing, jewelry, home decorations, and carvings are just a few of the offerings.  Wander among the tents, talk to the artisans and find the perfect gift – or something you can’t live without.    In addition to on-street parking (which can be hard to find), there’s free parking along Indian River Drive or in the Ft. Pierce Public Parking garage which you can enter from Avenue A.

So, when you want to add some pizzaz to your Saturday morning, head to the Ft. Pierce Farmer’s Market.  It’s one of the gems on the Treasure Coast.   Courtesy of S.Alexander

North Beach Association Update

From time to time we provide information about the North Beach Association or NBA.  The NBA is a not for profit association that works to maintain and improve the quality of life on North Hutchinson Island.    Pete and Jeri Bullock (1505 S) are officers in the North Beach Association.   Our members include owners and annual renters of property on NHI, commercial entities who provide services to residents and wish to support the activities of the NBA, and Associate members (renters or off-island folks) who want to support the activities of the NBA.  Associate members are non-voting members but can attend meetings and receive the NBA's Newsletters.

Its accomplishments last year include:

  • Sponsored the Beach Cleanup event
  • Sponsored 4 Adopt-a-Highway events
  • Held 4 Member Meetings
  • Donated Rip Tide signs to all communities who asked for one
  • Sponsored a Zoom meeting with Congressman Brian Mast where he explained the Army Corps of Engineers’ options for handling the water outflows from Lake Okeechobee
  • Advocated for the US Army Corps of Engineers to make the right decision for St Lucie County regarding the outflows from Lake Okeechobee
  • Sponsored a Zoom meeting with Matt Baum, Interim Director, SLC Parks and Recreation Dept
  • Opened a dialogue with President’s Council of Hutchinson Island, which is the association working for the betterment of South Hutchinson Island, to consider items of interest to both North and South Hutchinson Island
  • Improved our influence with outside agencies through increased membership growth from 700 members to 1334 members
  • Brought the parking situation (lack of parking) at Queens Island Park to the attention of Commissioner Cathy Townsend

Renew or Join the North Beach Association

The NBA's membership year is from Oct 1 through Sept 30th.     You can renew your membership or join the NBA for only $12 per family per year which includes emailed copies of the quarterly NBA Newsletter.   This year the NBA is offering an easy Online Membership Application where you can enter your contact information, decide if you would like the complementary emailed Newsletter or prefer to receive the Newsletter by postal delivery for a surcharge of $10 / year, and choose the payment method that's best for you.   Using the Online Membership Application you can pay online through Paypal or mail your check to us.    You don't have to have a Paypal account to use the online payment method because Paypal offers the ability to pay via a debit or credit card.

The Online Membership Application is available through the NBA website NORTHBEACHASSOCIATION.COM under the Menu option Membership Form.    On that screen you can choose to use the Online Form or Download a membership application that you can fill out and return by mail.

Help out with the Adopt-a-Highway Event

The North Beach Association supports the State of Florida's Highway Cleanup program, Adopt-a-Highway.    The NBA sponsors events 4 times each year and volunteers pick up trash and debris along the section of A1A between the North Causeway Bridge and Marina Avenue, which is just south of the Lowe's International Realty office.

The NBA is looking for volunteers for the upcoming event on Saturday September 25th at 9 am.    The cleanup event is usually completed within 1 and 1/2 hours with each volunteer responsible for no more than a quarter-mile stretch of roadway.   More volunteers means less time and effort spent by each volunteer.     You don't have to be an NBA member to volunteer.    Please consider joining us.

Where: Little Jim’s Parking Lot, West Side. Look for NBA Highway Cleanup Signs.
When: 9:00 am. Will last for 1 – 2 hours. Pizza afterward sponsored by Bob Lowe of Lowe’s International Realty
Wear: Clothing for the weather, heavy shoes, hat, optional heavy gloves (NBA provides disposable gloves)

Provided: Safety Vests, Grabbers, Trash Bags, Trash Disposal, Disposable Gloves, Masks (optional), Bug Spray, First Aid Kit, Deputy Sheriff presence with Safety Briefing, Water and Snacks
